A white Bordeaux style wine geared for the collector
VARIETAL: Sauvignon Blanc
VINEYARD: Gamble Vineyard
NOTES: Surrounded to the east and west by Conn Creek and the Napa River, Gamble Vineyard is situated on the northern border of the Yountville appellation. Heart Block is at the very center of this vineyard, at the very center of the Napa Valley. Loamy clay soils, a low elevation retaining fogs and mists, and afternoon shade from the nearby hills provide classic growing conditions for Sauvignon Blanc. Two French clones of Sauvignon Blanc are planted, one Loire Valley in origin, the other from Graves – their distinctive personalities help increase this wine’s complexity and interest.
The intense aromas and flavors are redolent of sweet treats: toffee apples, crème brulée, apricots and citrus marmalade. Yet this wine is bone dry, supported by lots of acidic citrus notes and a rich creamy texture. More savory elements of white pepper, lime peel and flint add to the layers of flavor and help to frame the long persistent finish. A wine that matures well and actually improves with 6 to 8 years of aging.
